Stars of the Valley - 2009
2009 Stars of the Valley Event was full of surprises! The evening started with the announcing of the beneficiaries wish fulfillments! Cynthia Fleming, a single mother fighting breast cancer was awarded her wish to have her bills paid and see Ellen Degeneres. Charity for Charity paid 1 months worth of bills and arranged for her to go to the Ellen show as a VIP, escorted by Majestic Ride Limo and treated to dinner at Ruth Chris.
Tallon Olives, a 4 year old boy with Langerhans Disease (a form of cancer), was awarded his wish to have a super hero’s party with his friends (presented by Spiderman) and a trip to Disneyland with his family.
Kelsey Jones sang “I Believe I Can Fly” to the beneficiaries and to a tearful crowd.
The tears dried and the party started….
Sara Oddi got the feet tappin and the hands clappin with “Proud Mary”.
Then, the special surprise entertainment was introduced by Board of Director, Karen LaPointe. The other board members surprised everyone with a fully choreographed, costumed and lip-synced version of Spice Girls, Wannabe!
After a brief intermission, the awards portion of the event began. It was a fun and exciting 20 awards… surprising some and shocking others. Especially the part when presenter Jim Margiotta got down on one knee and asked his co-presenter, Malinda Smith to marry him!
The live auction consisted of an adorable black lab mix puppy auctioned off by Charity’s Daddy, Gig Comella who started the bidding at $100. Shortly the bidding increased substantially and was called at $2500!! Terry Gilmore of Paradise Chevrolet shocked the crowd when he announced that his entire table pitched in on the dog for Tallon, the 4 year old beneficiary who had to put his family dog down just 1 month before! But that’s not all! Charity for Charity had another puppy that they brought out for the second runner up at $2400, Tim & Christine Updyke!
At the end of the event, as every event, after the winners of the baskets are announced… we have DeVaughn of Timmy D Productions kick up the music and we danced into the night!!
